Hermes: Enabling efficient large-scale simulation in MATSim

چکیده
Large scale simulations of transportation networks can yield highly valuable insights into the design decisions needed to deliver best possible service. Current technologies, however, are generally unable provide support for large as they often require impractical amounts time compute results. To address this issue, we have developed Hermes, a novel simulation core MATSim designed an alternative QSim. Using event-driven approach, well numerous optimizations data structures and logic, Hermes is capable completing larger scenarios within feasible frames. We demonstrate Hermes’ capabilities through extensive experiments production level results obtained from Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), where currently being used in production.

Efficient Simulation of Large-Scale Loss Networks
Recently Rajasekaran and Ross [1] presented an algorithm that takes an expected 0(1) time to generate a nonuniform discrete random variate. In this paper we discuss how this algorithm can be employed in the efficient simulation of large-scale telephone networks. In a simulation based upon a standard event-list approach, the generation of a new event in the systems take 0(log n) time. With this ...
متن کاملCOMPUTATIONALLY EFFICIENT OPTIMUM DESIGN OF LARGE SCALE STEEL FRAMES
Computational cost of metaheuristic based optimum design algorithms grows excessively with structure size. This results in computational inefficiency of modern metaheuristic algorithms in tackling optimum design problems of large scale structural systems. This paper attempts to provide a computationally efficient optimization tool for optimum design of large scale steel frame structures to AISC...
متن کاملIntegrating BDI Agents into a MATSim Simulation
MATSim is a mature and powerful traffic simulator, used for large scale traffic simulations, primarily to assess likely results of various infrastructure or road network changes. More recently there has been work to extend MATSim to allow its use in applications requiring what has been referred to as “within day replanning”. In the work described here we have coupled MATSim with a BDI (Belief D...
متن کاملCoordinator-master-worker model for efficient large scale network simulation
In this work, we propose a coordinator-master-worker (CMW) model for medium to extra-large scale network simulation. The model supports distributed and parallel simulation for a heterogeneous computing node architecture with both multicore CPUs and GPUs. The model aims at maximizing the hardware usage rate while reducing the overall management overhead. In the CMW model, the coordinator is the ...
